Lucy Angulo Lafosse
We live in a time of intense change, comparable to a telluric force or a storm, as foretold by a myth: every transformation entails a rupture and the possibility of a new order.

Lucy Angulo Lafosse creates her artwork as a profound expression of her inner world, closely connected to her everyday experiences, spiritual beliefs, cultural influences, and an intimate, ongoing relationship with nature.
In recent years, Angulo’s work has moved beyond Pre-Columbian influence. While the titles of some of her paintings still refer to this historical period, such references reflect primarily the deep affection she holds for that era—one that marked the early stages of her artistic career, when she was inspired by myths and legends she sought to translate into her own visual language.
Her painting now possesses a universal character, in which all these influences converge and integrate naturally on the canvas, resulting in a sensitive body of work in constant transformation.
From a critical perspective, no direct formal or conceptual influence of the Pre-Columbian tradition is evident in her current painting, in contrast to artists such as Cajahuaringa, whose modern abstraction clearly revealed a strong Pre-Columbian foundation.
Each of Angulo’s paintings emerges from the integration of these accumulated elements throughout her artistic and existential journey, giving rise to unique and autonomous visual universes.
Within this creative process, each work is distinct and ultimately constitutes a world of its own.
